thximmg211116Today is Thanksgiving Day which is intended to recognize the gimmicky faulty history of Native Americans and Pilgrims coming together in Thanksgiving. They say that history is written by the victors and in almost every way, the Thanksgiving Day fantasy is an example of this. The other fantasy created by nativists is that immigrants are damaging the United States.

What that notion completely ignores, and very likely intentionally, is that today’s Thanksgiving Day celebrations would not be the same were it not for the immigrants that some celebrants dehumanize. The fact is that over 70% of the groceries that Thanksgiving celebrants are enjoying today were harvested by foreign-born workers, most of whom are Mexican.

The most poignant fact is that almost half of the agricultural workers in the United States are undocumented. These workers, much stigmatized across the US, are the reason that many in the country can enjoy the bounty they have on their tables today.

My message to the Donald Trump voters and nativists is that as you enjoy your meals today, take a moment to thank an immigrant for the meal. Take a moment to realize that immigrants are vital to the United States’ way of life.

Most importantly, remember that the green bean casserole or apple pie was made possible by a human being who works hard to be able to provide for their own families, even if it means hiding in the shadows or working for meager wages. Remember they are human and not the fear-induced imagery that nativists would have you believe.

  1. Come on, I don’t know the stats but I would guess there a large perv centage of central and South Americans.

It’s a known fact that if every illegal alien was to leave the food prices would skyrocket. The only reason people are upset because of the economy. Once the economy is rolling again and people are working, I’m sure there will some type of reform to allow legal work status.

As for the fear, if it’s the illegal they pretty protest in the open with signs. I have never heard of anyone shake in fear when seeing an illegal.

  2. How about REMEMBERING the FARMERS for their love and dedication who GROW the food? Ever wonder how many SACRIFICES they’ve made THEIR ENTIRE LIVES? Enough already Martin. Stop the endless lectures. Trump won, let’s move forward together and see the how we can resolve issues rather than running around the same bush!
    HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
