Last night, Peter Svarzbein was sworn in as the new District 1 representative. Today will be his first day at city council. About the only controversial item on the city’s agenda, that Svarzbein’s vote may affect is the election of a new mayor pro-tempore. As you know, the previous attempt to elect a new mayor pre-tempore was postponed until today because it was decided that Svarzbein should have a vote as the new city representative.
The election of a new mayor pro-tempore is normally held on the first day that a new city council is supposed to be seated. There are various rumors as to why there seemed to be rush to elect a new one a few weeks ago with some political intrigue intermixed in the rumormongering. The truth is much less sinister than that.
Cortney Niland, the current mayor pro-tempore was scheduled to be on a European vacation and somewhere along the line someone, possibly her thought it was a good idea to hold an election for the mayor pro-tempore before she left, as she would not be at city council for two weeks.
Of course in a dysfunctional city council a simple process was turned into some conspiracy to keep someone’s mayoral aspirations in check. The truth is that holding the election today is proper but holding it a few weeks ago was not a conspiracy but rather an attempt to do good for the community.
There was no conspiracy to hold it a few weeks ago and holding it today is the proper thing to do. Peter Svarzbein deserves the opportunity to cast a vote and offer a nomination should he choose to do so.
I believe that Peter Svarzbein will vote lock-and-step with Claudia Ordaz as both serve the same public policy agenda that Veronica Escobar is dictating. It will be interesting to see how he votes in the upcoming meetings especially as items that are more controversial enter the pipeline of city business.
I am sure most of you have been hearing the same rumors that I have as to who Svarzbein may appoint as part of his staff. I really believe that Svarzbien, and by extension Veronica Escobar cannot be that stupid so I really do not believe the rumors you are all floating about. There is only so much political controversy that Veronica Escobar can endure and I do not see Svarzbein doing a favor that controversial even for Escobar as his first official act in office.
I believe the rumors started because someone was testing the waters but it is clear that appointing someone to work at the city that is so toxic would be highly controversial.
We should see if the rumor pans out in the next few days. In the meantime keep an eye on Svarzbein’s votes and I believe you will see a Veronica Escobar protégé working to push forth her public policy agenda.
I don’t know what it’s going to take for El Paso to wake up and stop for these puppets and the nonvoters start voting.
This is not going to end well. If only he would be courageous and vote for the good of the city not for the good of the Escobar agenda. For once one of these elected officials should stop being led around by the noise.
Greece, Detroit, Puerto Rico and California. How many more goverrnments have to collapse before this area comes to the realization that eventually El Paso will fail unless someone puts a stop to this train wreck. I am shocked that the media and politicians continue to state that funds from the state or Feds is “Free” money. Even worse people believe it. Doesnt anyone know the “Free” money comes from taxes? So how is it free ?
Good luck Peter, I hope you show courage and choose to lead for the people and resist any attempt for Escobar to add your gonads to her wall.
didn’t nilad just get back from europe?
