This article will be updated throughout as election results are released by the County’s Elections Department. Last updated at 9:15pm, El Paso time.
The final results show a runoff between Josh Acevedo and Verónica Carbajal.
According to the results of early voting for the District 2 city council seat to replace Alexsandra Annello who resigned the seat to run for Texas State Representative District 77, we predict a runoff between Acevedo and Carbajal.
Turnout for this election has been extremely slow with 1,077 ballots cast during the early voting period. This is less than 3% of the eligible voters. According to reports from several precincts earlier today, it appears that less than 1,000 votes will be cast today if the trend continues. If this is true, about 2,000 ballots would be cast making voter turn out to be less 5%. Based on several factors, we estimate that around 800 ballots will be cast today. We expect results for the ballots cast today to released within a couple of hours. We will update this article with the latest results when they become available.
In May, 9.94% of registered voters in District 2 cast a ballot. This was the election where Proposition K was rejected by an overwhelming majority of voters.
Polls close at 7:00pm and the early voting results will then become available.
