(I edited this post on 07aug19 at 10:46ET to correct a term I should not have used.) So, Donald Trump has decided to visit El Paso today even though most elected officials from El Paso have told him he is not welcome. Almost all, but not Dee Margo. Why not Margo? Because Margo is a Republican and like all Republicans, he wants to ignore the hate Trump brings to the Hispanic community. But I wonder if El Paso will show up today and repudiate Donald Trump or will El Pasoans meekly stay silent as Trump makes El Paso another political stop for his immigrant bashing.

I understand that there are various letters making the rounds in the community gathering signatures imploring Trump not to come to El Paso. Signatures are good. Television sound bites are good as well.

But the true and unforgettable message that not even Fox News can spin are thousands of El Paso collectively telling Trump to leave.

Puerto Rico was able muster a million people to rid itself of their corrupt governor. El Paso should be able to muster thousands of El Pasoans to tell Trump to go, well to go you know where.

Let me fantasize for a moment. In my fantasy I see a half a million to one million El Pasoans and Juarenses lining the streets chanting “Trump go back to where you came from!

Imagine the symbolism that would resonate across America.

El Paso would cement its place in the American history books for decades to come.

It would also help Beto O’Rourke reclaim his run for the presidency.

But, alas, that is but a fantasy.

What will happen will be that a few hundred civically engaged paseños will gather signatures, work their hearts out getting the message across while El Paso voters will just shrug their shoulders choosing to go to work or to stay home.

But the Trump team won’t be doing the same way.

Dee Margo will create the illusion that Trump has support in El Paso. Margo is a Republican after all.

Veronica Escobar, Beto O’Rourke and the other Democrats will do their best to mobilize people.

But the Trump team will gather people from outside of El Paso and bring them in to further the illusion that Trump has support in El Paso. Some El Pasoans who really don’t care will join the out of town Trumpsters just so they can snap a picture of the television-reality star, Trump.

I just hope that in bringing in thousands of out of towners to show support for Trump one, or two gun-toting Mexican-hating terrorists don’t sneak in as well. One out of town terrorist filled with hate is enough for El Paso.

Oh well, the fantasy was good until reality snapped me out of it.

I am hoping I’m wrong. If I am please feel free to tell me so.

One reply on “Trump Not Welcome in El Paso”

  1. My fantasy to protest the registered racist is the opposite of yours. I would like to see El Paso/Cd Juarez protest with silence. Ignore him, no crowds of noisy protesters. Ignore him, shun him, he craves attention, well don’t give it to him.

Only the Republicans, trompatistas, and other politicos show up, because they always do. Let them handle the noise and attention. Of course, the media will be there to interview, confused because there are no anti- trompas.

    Silence for the racist.
