Let us face it. Today Robert Mueller is set to testify before Congress. In other words, it is Mueller Time. As such all politics will take a back seat to the spectacle of the crimes alleged against Donald Trump.
Because all politics will take a back seat to the show, anything posted today that is not Mueller will be lost in all the noise.
As much as the show is expected to deliver, it will likely leave many disappointed. This is because of three reasons.
The first is that Mueller is a professional prosecutor and government employee. Mueller will defer to the legalese and not offer anything that is not already in his report.
Mueller made it clear that it is up to Congress to prosecute Donald Trump.
The second reason is that the Democrats are playing politics. Each of them will be trying their best to score political points and score some television time. Because they will be focused on that, they will allow the spin to dominate the news cycle.
That is the third reason, the political spin is in overdrive. For every accusation of wrongdoing by Trump there will be the spin machine distracting you from it. It will be the spin on both sides that will set the tone for the spectacle.
Finally, the real reason all will be disappointed is because for the typical U.S voter. If the facts are not delivered in byte-sized morsels and predigested they either do not care or do not have the time to understand it.
By the time the dust settles – likely by Friday – there will still be 30 to 40% of the country firmly behind Donald Trump. The rest will not make a difference because they remain unengaged in the political process.
They should scan the security cam vidoes around Trump Tower going back to its completion. Maybe they’ll catch him spitting on the sidewalk, an impeachable offense. Napoleon said to never interfere when your enemy is destroying himself, but i don’t think Trump has the restraint to do that.
