wife-payFor some time now I have been hearing rumors that Tommy Gonzalez’ family, especially his wife, are very unhappy in El Paso and want to leave the city. I haven’t mentioned this until now, although it came from multiple sources, because at this point it is nothing more than rumors.

However, I found it interesting that Darren Hunt, of KVIA made it a point to focus on Gonzalez’ wife’s happiness about being in El Paso in last night’s newscast. Obviously the rumors about Tommy Gonzalez’ family’s happiness in the city has trended high enough for it to be a topic of questioning by KVIA.

What I found most interesting is that Larry Romero, instead of denying the rumor, spoke to it by stating that he believes that Gonzalez’ wife “has days where her husband gets attacked and criticized and she probably does tell him lets [sic] get out of here.”

As you might remember, Larry Romero admitted that Tommy Gonzalez’ $61,040 pay raise was his idea. (I’ll have more about this in tomorrow’s blog post) Darren Hunt also made it a point to ask Oscar Leeser if Gonzalez was happy in El Paso.

Oscar Leeser, as a seasoned businessman, offered a response that avoided answering the question directly.

Let’s look at the issue of whether Tommy Gonzalez’ family is happy in El Paso.

If the rumor turned out to be true, that Gonzalez’ wife is unhappy in El Paso, what would that say about the city?

If you remember Bloomberg’s recent report about the El Paso exodus you will understand that Tommy Gonzalez leaving the city because of his family’s unhappiness will completely disprove the “it’s all good El Paso” notion that city council is so desperately trying to create, although the facts keep getting in their way.

How could the fiction that El Paso is the up and coming city of the future, if Tommy Gonzalez’ wife is so displeased that Tommy Gonzalez might be contemplating leaving the city?

Is this the real reason behind the $61,040 pay raise? Is the raise a payoff to keep the fiction going that El Paso is the city on the verge of greatness?

  1. Pay me $60,000. I’ll help him pack his shit. I don’t want anyone running a city they can’t appreciate. Screw him and his wife.

  2. Hear, hear, Vegas. You pay $20 and I will help you pack them and good riddens. And for free we can make space for Noe and Romero all to San Antonio, Houston or maybe Dallas.
