Now that Ann Morgan Lilly’s seat on city council is up for grabs I thought I’d again look to see if there has been any new information about the Ann Morgan Lilly’s criminal complaint from October 2013. As you might remember, city employee Jose Fierro alleged in a 911 call that Ann Morgan Lilly had assaulted him on October 21, 2013. It has now been about 16 months and there has been no public announcement of an investigation into the allegations or the results of any.
The nation’s public discourse has had substantial discussions about police brutality and the place police have in society. Intermixed in the discussion is the treatment of citizens by various police departments on whether the police treat individuals differently based on class or race. In El Paso there have been numerous allegations of police abuse and there are currently numerous police officers under investigation or who have been charged with various crimes, from official document abuse all the way up to drug trafficking.
Of course you all know that many prominent El Pasoans are in jail or recently released from jail for public corruption. Not one or two but rather more than twenty officials. More than fifty police officers have recently left the police force because of criminal investigations.
In the case of Ann Morgan Lilly, this is the second time she has been publicly accused of criminal conduct. Like the 2005 case, her political status seems to have resulted in both criminal investigations mysteriously disappearing into oblivion without even the fact that an investigation was ever conducted being documented.
When police investigations are held in secret it can only mean one thing – a cover up. It is a public fact that Ann Morgan Lilly has been publicly accused of assault, one of them on a public official, and yet no record of an investigation has been publicly released.
Why is that?
The only thing I can think of is that an investigation would result in the public release of information that would be detrimental to the political class and thus it is hidden from the public. Or, it is also very possible that no investigation was ever conducted.
Either way it is corrupt.
In a city still under the cloud of corruption any hint of corrupt practices should be eradicated. Instead, the cover-ups continue. As far as I’m concerned that can only mean one thing, corruption in El Paso has not been resolved, instead one corrupt group eradicated the competition and as a result they are more embolden than ever.
As a member of the political class, Ann Morgan Lilly will be allowed to go off into the sunset to retire without the community knowing whether she assaulted two individuals or not as has been alleged. Must be nice to be a member of the ruling class.
Impunity is a form of corruption and as evidenced by Cd. Juárez it can lead to serious social problems for the population including unprecedented violence.
Yawn. Too bad she didn’t assault Engineering for their continuing fuck-up of Country Club Road. I would help. Really, no one on CC seems to give a crap about Country Club and San Jacinto Plaza, so nothing happens except delay upon delay.
I just want to see someone in authority get mad about it.
