I no longer have the words to describe the disgust I have in El Paso politicians. It is as if to be an El Paso politician requires that decency and common sense are qualities that El Pasoan’s have decided are just an impediment to living life.
KXAN reported earlier today that our intrepid State Representative Naomi Gonzalez (D) was charged with driving while intoxicated this morning at around 2 am. According to the report, Gonzalez was driving a vehicle that resulted in numerous injuries, including a bicyclist.
Of course this was in Austin so there was an actual arrest and most likely a proper prosecution would follow. Had this been El Paso, the most likely scenario would have been a cover up to protect the system.
And that is the problem, El Paso politicians have become so accustomed to how the El Paso political elite protect them, as is the case with Jaime Abeytia, and therefore they feel that they can do as they like.
Notice, that unlike the El Paso media, the Austin media and law enforcement are doing their jobs. How refreshing it is.
As for Naomi Gonzalez, expect the following from her. Oh, it’s just a big misunderstanding or I really wasn’t drunk. Or, I was out celebrating my or some else’s birthday. In the end, she, the local politicians and the local media will make this into a minor transgression. Something she could be forgiven for. She, is after all, of the political class and as such she has the latitude of it’s just a minor transgression.
My only question now is whether she will replace her official portrait with her mug shot?
El Paso Pravda did exactly as you said they would, made her out to be the victim.
She didn’t immediately respond to questions, she had to attend ethics commitee matters.
