Today is Election Day for the 2024 Primary. In El Paso, unlike the rest of Texas, the Democrats will be the most watched races. In many cases, the winners of today’s election will go on to win the office in November. Polls open at 7:00am and close at 7:00pm.

These are the most important races to keep an eye on.

El Paso News predicts that Alma Trejo and James Montoya are in a runoff for the District Attorney seat.

Running to fill Alma Trejo’s unexpired term are Linda Estrada and Linda Perez. Linda Perez was appointed by the county commissioners to the seat in December. Trejo resigned to run for the District Attorney seat.

Likely the most contested race in this Primary is the race to replace outgoing Sheriff Richard Wiles. The race for the Sheriff is too close to call for the second spot. Oscar Ugarte will face either Bobby Flores or Ryan Urrutia in a runoff election.
