Donald Trump recently further restricted immigration to the United States ostensibly to protect American jobs. Most anti-immigrants argue that immigrants are a drain on the U.S. taxpayers, American resources and add to America’s lowered wages. Trump has waged a war on immigrants and his immigrant bashing is about to cost American jobs.

With unemployment rates sky high because of the Coronavirus, the last thing the country needs is further lost jobs, especially federal jobs. But that is exactly what is happening, thousands of Americans are facing the prospect of unemployment because of Trump’s draconian immigration policies.

According to The Washington Post, “three-fourths of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services workforce – more than 13,000 employees – could be told as soon as Wednesday that they face extended furloughs starting on August 3.”

Over thirteen thousand federal employees will be furloughed because Donald Trump has closed the doors on immigrants.

Although it may be assumed that taxes pay for the federal workers, the fact is that the fees paid for by the immigrants is what funds the employees about to lose their jobs.

Because of the pandemic and Trump’s war on immigrants, the fees paid for by immigrants are “down sharply” leading to the potential layoffs.

To avoid the layoffs, Congress now must give USCIS an immediate infusion of taxpayer monies to keep the federal workers working. Congress is being asked for $1.2 billion to keep the federal workers on the job through the rest of 2020.

It didn’t have to be this way; immigrants not only benefit the country, but they help keep thousands of American workers working with the fees they pay.

Customs and Border Protection has also been concerned about its budget because of reduced immigration to America.
