For many years I carried the hidden secret that people in the U.S. would make fun of my government. Jokes about beans, poverty and corruption were/are pervasive. México, like all countries, has its problems but U.S. people (the arrogance of Americans forgets that America is a continent) don’t seem to notice or understand their own failures.
The constant jokes made me angry and for many years I kept it to myself. Then I started blogging about U.S. corruption. It helped but the constant drone of Mexico this, or Mexico that continues to this day.
It is something that I’ve accepted as, “it is what it is”.
And then something happened this week.
European leaders openly laughed at Donald Trump!
Not only did they laugh, but they also sent him scurrying away with his tail between his legs.
It’s no longer the wink, wink, we don’t like Donald Trump. It is now an open contempt for Donald Trump at the global stage.
As I saw Donald Trump scurry away I also noted with glee that he didn’t get far enough from the open contempt because as soon as he arrived back in the country, the House of Representatives leader, Nancy Pelosi announced that articles of impeachment will soon be filed against him.
Donald Trump is going to carry the stigma of impeached president for the rest of his life!
It may be half of the country, or it may be more, but the fact remains that Donald Trump is mocked by many.
So much for the fake “Trump” brand he has cultivated over the years because henceforth the “Trump” brand is not about the highfalutin image Donald Trump and family believe, but instead, it represents that brand the world has come to mock openly.
As for me, the next time I hear someone joke about México, I will smile and remind the mocker that at least no one has openly mocked any Mexican president.
I’ll sit back now and let the usual suspects post comments or send me messages trying to spin this little un-spinnable fact that has made my life better now.
