Yesterday William Barr testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee about the Mueller Report. This was shortly after a March 27 letter from Mueller to Barr was released publicly. The letter articulated that the Special Counsel does not believe that Barr’s March 24 letter to Congress summarizing the Mueller investigation “did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance” of the investigation report delivered by Mueller’s office. Barr’s testimony exposes the politics of coverups.
On one side of the cover up is Donald Trump and his enablers, many Republicans. The Republicans in yesterday’s Senate testimony did their best to distract from the underlining fact that William Barr intentionally misdirected the findings of the Mueller Report to give Trump and supporters about 30-days to spin the results of the Mueller investigation.
Robert Mueller clearly tells William Barr on his March 27th letter that Barr mischaracterized the Mueller investigation to show that Donald Trump was exonerated. Trump has taken the “exonerated” argument in discussing the Mueller investigation. The Republicans at the Barr hearing did not want the mischaracterization fact to gain traction and thus took their time at the hearing to direct attention towards the wrongdoings allegedly committed by investigators when investigating Hillary Clinton, the FISA warrants and the Steele Dossier.
It was a classic “whataboutism,” in other words don’t look at the facts at hand but, instead, focus on what we want you to see. Donald Trump and the Republicans, with the help of William Barr, don’t want the American people to see that the Mueller Report leaves open questions of Donald Trump obstructing justice which can be an impeachable offense.
Interestingly, William Barr’s own testimony before Congress may, in fact, be construed as obstruction for evasively avoiding Congress’ quest for factual information.
The Mueller Report found substantial instances of obstruction by Donald Trump and arguably left open the possibility of Congress initiating impeachment proceedings.
But like most obstruction instances, the initial cover up can only be kept alive by further instances of cover ups, or obstruction of facts.
What America witnessed yesterday was just another layer of obstruction covering up the underlining cover up.
So now it’s a different phase of the war between the two wings, the Barr four page letter vs. the Mueller 400+ page report, with a well-defined line, the DOJ, GOP, and the R-voters on one side and the spooks, the Democratic Party, D-voters, and the nunca-trompas (former enemies of the Ds.) on the other side. The spooks and the “left”, who would have thought?
There is one point where many of the above do meet, and that’s in their belief that the Russians interfered with 2016 US election, with the MSM egging them on. They are concerned about “democracy”, “sovereignty”, and other “attacks” on the Fatherland. Meantime el Pompeo, el Bolton, and the vagarious trompas threaten Venezuela with US military intervention if Maduro doesn’t abdicate so the US can install its puppet.
