Donald Trump declared a national emergency to build The Wall, while elsewhere in America lies the real danger to Americans. As everyone surely knows by now, the facts are just inconvenient details for Donald Trump and his cohorts. But the facts cannot be hidden nor ignored. We know that the dangers from the border are exaggerated at best and lied about at worst. Where the real danger for Americans lies is in the homegrown terrorists that Trump and cohorts seem to not see.
Yesterday we learned of yet another American terrorist looking to hurt Americans, not one, not two but as many as he could kill.
U.S. Coast Guard Lieutenant Christopher Paul Hasson was arrested on several gun charges recently. We learned the details of his arrest late on Wednesday. Although Hasson was arrested on gun charges, the prosecutors have detailed a case of domestic terrorism targeting prominent Democratic leaders and high-profile CNN and MSNBC anchors. Not coincidentally, those targeted oppose Donald Trump’s political agenda.
But let’s put aside Trump’s politics about the border for a moment and look closer at the case of Hasson.
Christopher Paul Hasson is an active-duty Coast Guard lieutenant who has espoused extremist White Nationalism views for years. He has not kept his White Nationalism views secret and yet was able to serve in the U.S. Coast Guard.
The U.S. government has several emails from Hasson threatening mass-murders with biological weapons in addition to collecting ammunition and weapons.
Let the following sink in for a moment and percolate so that the significance is clear:
Hasson is an active duty officer in the Coast Guard publicly expressing his hatred of minorities and advocating White Nationalism.
“I dreamed of a way to kill every last person on earth,” Hasson wrote on 2017. He has also expressed admiration for Russia and for Anders Breivick, a Norwegian anti-Muslim White Nationalist.
Among the items the prosecutors have is a long list of targets to kill that Hasson compiled.
Yet, in Donald Trump’s twisted world, the border is so dangerous that it needs a national emergency to deal with it.
So here is the question I challenge anyone that supports building a wall on the southern border to answer.
Name one individual, just one, that has ever been proven to have come from south of the United States border that had a long list of American leaders to systematically kill?
I challenge you to name just one.
Here’s a hint: none!
The border is dangerous and needs a wall because millions of people come over it illegally, not because one nutcase did.
