All rat leaders have minions that once the frying pan gets too hot, they scurry away hoping to avoid suffering the fate of their leader. So it is with Donald Trump, whose minions are turning on him to protect their own skins. We already know about George Papadopoulos, who has plead guilty and is providing information to Robert Mueller’s investigators. Former Trump loyalist, Michael Flynn, also plead guilty and will likely cooperate with Mueller’s team. Paul Manafort and his lackey, Rick Gates, are feeling the heat and will likely scamper like rats to protect their own necks when the realization hits them that Trump has abandoned them. And, they will likely realize that Trump will protect himself and his family before them, because of the latest rat, Steve Bannon’s betrayal of Donald Trump that is playing out before your eyes.
The Trump loyalists are still holding out hope that the Mueller investigation will clear Trump, but the Manafort court filing against Mueller’s team yesterday demonstrates that desperation is setting in. Donald Trump tweeting that Steve Bannon has “lost his mind” is another indication of how desperate the Trump Whitehouse is getting.
True to form, Trump tries to distance himself from those that threaten his carefully crafted media personality of someone in control. He did this with Papadopoulos when it came to light that Papadopoulos had plead guilty and was cooperating with Mueller’s team. Now, Donald Trump is attempting to create the illusion that Steve Bannon is an “opportunist” – he is – but that’s in the same ilk as Trump and does not discount Bannon’s testimony.
Steve Bannon was fired by Donald Trump. Bannon had positioned himself as Trump’s chief strategist, although Trump denied this several times. Regardless, Bannon has first knowledge of many events in Trump’s inner circle during the presidential election and soon after Trump occupied the Whitehouse. Bannon’s first-hand knowledge is what Trump fears the most.
Trump fears Bannon’s recollections because unlike, Papadopoulos, there is ample public information to show that Bannon was privy to Trump insider antics.
Many targets of federal criminal investigations go to jail, not because of the crime they were being investigated for, but because of the resulting attempts to interfere with the criminal investigation. That is what will be ultimate undoing of the Trump administration, just like it was for Richard Nixon.
It may take time, but in the end, Donald Trump’s legacy, and possibly that of his family, will be one of an unethical failure and possibly a criminal.
Join me, let’s sit back and watch the drama unfold before us. Don’t forget the popcorn as this one will be one for the history books.
