It has been well established that Donald Trump is a liar. Now, it’s time to establish that he is a hypocrite. Donald Trump ran on the platform that undocumented immigrants must be expelled from the country. Trump has said that undocumented immigrants are a danger to the country and they hurt the U.S. worker. What Donald Trump doesn’t want the people of the country to know is that he is a hypocrite. In 1983, HouseWreckers Union Local 95 Pension & Welfare Funds filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump for work performed “by a group of undocumented Polish workers on the 1980 demolition of the Bonwit Teller Building to make way for Trump Tower.”
Yes, you read that correctly, Donald Trump hired undocumented workers to demolish a building for his Trump Tower building.
Marco Rubio had first brought up the hypocrisy of Donald Trump in hiring undocumented workers during the Republican nomination debates in 2016. Trump denied the allegation. Although reports of Trump using undocumented workers from Poland for his Trump Tower had been documented publicly, the amount of the settlement Trump made to end the case remained murky. That is because the case was sealed at the request of Trump.
Donald Trump was sued for cheating the union out of pension funds for the 200 Polish workers, known as the Polish Brigade. As the case made its way through the courts, there were several allegations made against Trump about not paying some workers and the “horrid working conditions” at the Trump project.
Typically, Donald Trump told the New York Times in 1998, that “out of principal” he would not settle the case. Rubio charged that Trump had paid “$1 million for hiring” the Polish workers. But because the court documents were under seal, the amount paid was disputed by Trump.
On October 26, 1998, Donald Trump settled the case by paying $1,375,000. About $300,000 was distributed to the HouseWreckers Union Local 95 Pension Fund, and about $190,000 to the HouseWreckers Union Local 95 Insurance Trust Fund. The rest went to the lawyers. This was finally revealed after the court documents were unsealed earlier this week as a result of a lawsuit filed by Time Magazine and Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press.
Do you see the pattern?
Donald Trump is accused of doing something illegal, egregious or both and denies it. He uses his ability to keep documents hidden from public view to pretend his accusers have nothing. But Marco Rubio was correct about the amount. That Trump hired undocumented immigrants has also been documented, although he blames a subcontractor for it. This coming from the man the prides himself in micromanaging his developments.
But more important is the pattern of saying one thing – American workers come first – and doing the exact opposite thing – hiring undocumented workers. That is the very definition of hypocrisy.
That makes Donald Trump not only a liar but a hypocrite of the worst kind.
