The relaunch of the El Paso Herald Post has led several longtime El Paso News readers to ask, is El Paso News going away or will the content be the same? The answer is neither. The two publications are targeted at two different news demographics. El Paso News will carry my byline exclusively with rare editorials occasionally featured. As it has been for over 20 years, El Paso News will continue to offer news analysis.

News analysis is in-depth news reports that offers context and meaning to recent events that allows readers to get a better understanding of the news story. Recent examples of news analysis is the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and the politics behind it. Instead of reporting the facts of what transpired, news analysis provides context to the facts by adding dimensionality to the event. For example, in the case of the Charlie Kirk murder, the news analysis adds the context of the political repercussions of the murder. It provides readers with a deeper understanding of issues like growing political violence in America in addition to the facts surrounding the murder.

Dear reader, I hope you appreciate this article. Before reading more, I ask that you consider my work and make a small donation to help keep this publication open for everyone. El Paso lacks news diversity. I offer 20+ years of historical knowledge about El Paso’s politics and public policy. Media diversity matters. Make a small donation today to help keep my work going for another 20+ years. Thank you.

Although an opinion piece and news analysis can look the same, news analysis connects the dots from the facts allowing readers to make sense of a complex issue, where the intent of an opinion piece is to persuade the reader.

El Paso Herald Post, on the other hand, is an online newspaper providing news about El Paso and surrounding areas. El Paso Herald Post is a team of people whose goal it is to fill the news void in El Paso and bring trust back to news reporting. Leading the team is David Crowder, formally of the El Paso Inc. and the El Paso Times. Crowder brings years of journalism experience to the El Paso Herald Post and is ensuring the publication adheres to the journalistic standards that once made the news trustworthy to readers.

Although news sharing has occurred and will continue to occur between the El Paso Herald Post and El Paso News and my byline will appear on both news outlets there will also be times where an in-depth news analysis will only appear on El Paso News.

The two publications serve two distinct demographics and what each publishes reflects that.

It is clear from the results of the first two weeks that the El Paso Herald Post has been live that El Paso news consumers are hungry for a trustworthy news outlet. Many of the stories published on El Paso Herald Post show over a thousand views within days of being published.

The El Paso Herald Post even broke news ten days after it launched when it reported that Carmen Arrieta-Candelaria had been appointed as the county’s new Director of Budget and Finance.

It wasn’t until nine days later that KTSM reported that she had been appointed, making El Paso Herald Post the leader in breaking that important news item.

What you can expect from El Paso News is what it has been delivering for over 20 years now. What you can expect from the El Paso Herald Post is what it has delivered in its first two weeks of operation. Both publications will keep you informed about the important issues El Paso is facing.
