Much is assumed about El Paso’s voter. Who is likely to vote, that El Paso’s Republicans are absent from the scene and that El Paso voters are different from their Texas brethren, just to name a few. To address these questions and to get a good look at how El Paso’s voters compare to voters across the nation and in Texas, we put together this infographic to get a better understanding about El Paso’s voters.

(A printable version can be downloaded below.)
The infographic compares the El Paso voter to the national and Texas average voter using various factors. These include a comparison of the percentage of early voters compared to national and Texas voters. The infographic includes a comparison of how El Paso voters have participated in the major elections from 2000 through 2022.
Additionally, the infographic shows that El Paso Republican voters mirror their Democratic Party voters.
El Paso voters generally follow the major trends of their Texas counterparts.
However, as can be observed from the infographic, El Paso and Texas voters in percentages of voters casting ballots during the early voting period are higher when compared to national averages. Interestingly, both El Paso and Texas voters voted in greater numbers in early voting in most cases, with the notable change observed in 2020 at the height of the Coronavirus pandemic, as expected. Nonetheless, in all cases, national voters preferred voting on Election Day over the early voting period.

As can also be observed in the infographic, two key events motivated El Paso Democratic Party voters. They were the 2016 presidential election won by Donald Trump and the 2020 elections dominated by the pandemic. Interestingly, Beto O’Rourke’s challenge of Greg Abbott for the governorship in 2022 seems to have had little effect on El Paso’s voters.
For context, our infographics includes key events to see if the events had an impact on the voters and how they vote.
