We are updating this story as names of individuals considering running for Ortega’s seat began to surface. We are listing the names as they become available below.
In a Twitter post on her official account, State Representative Evelina (Lina) Ortega announced that she will not seek reelection to her District 77 seat. In the letter posted to her Twitter account a little after noon today, Ortega wrote she has decided “not to seek a fifth term.”
Ortega added that she will continue to work on the “goal” of bringing a law school to El Paso in the near future.
Ortega was first elected in 2017. Her current term ends next year.
No word yet on what her future plans are.

David Saucedo Confirms Considering Running For Ortega’s Seat
Shortly after we published this story we started receiving the names of individuals that may seek the seat Ortega is vacating. The first name we heard was David Saucedo who ran for mayor in 2017 against Dee Margo.
In a telephone conversation Saucedo, Saucedo confirmed to us that he is considering running for the seat in the upcoming elections.
