“Words Matter” – that will be the title of my new WordPress page when I get it up and running. Who am I, you might ask? Well, that is a legitimate question and deserves a legitimate answer.
However, comma, having spent more than seven decades trying to be “me” and define exactly who I am, I have come to the conclusion that there are way too many different answers to that question to answer in a simple post here on El Paso News.
“I am what I am”, said Popeye the sailor man. For me, that means I am not just one thing, but just as a diamond turned in the light shows its brilliance in each facet, I also have many sides to “me”.
So, here goes my attempt at an introduction:
I am 73 years old, married 49 years, retired Army Warrant Officer, Yankee by Trade – Texan by Choice, left-handed, big nosed, half Irish, half Greek, all American, a resident of El Paso for almost thirty-five years (not counting my military assignments at Fort Bliss), a graduate of the University of Texas @ El Paso “GO MINERS”, and yada, yada, yada, more later on my community activities.
As time unfolds, I will be posting some contemporary essays on my world view of El Paso del Norte for you, the reader, to mull over. There will also be an opportunity for me to share some of my attempts at creative writing and poetry. Then there will be the obligatory political and social analysis labelled IMHO (remember, these are my opinions, not yours, please be gentle in any critique).
So, not wanting to drag out this first post too long, please keep your hands inside the car and hang on to the bar – its going to be a GREAT ride!
