Donald Trump told America that it was “full”. Anti-immigrants argue that American does not need any more immigrants. Immigrants are America’s greatest asset as well as America’s greatest bogeyman. The darkest secret America keeps is that it needs immigrants while pretending it does not.

No one, not the Democrats, not the Republicans and especially not Donald Trump wants to resolve the immigration debacle because the secret would be exposed for all to see. America is not America without its immigrants. Both documented and undocumented make America great each and every day.

But talk to Trump supporters and the anti-immigrants and they’ll proclaim at the top of their lungs that immigrants are a bane on America while secretly knowing that without immigrants, America’s economy would die.

There is plenty of evidence, from keeping social security solvent to doing the work across America that needs to be done. The evidence is there. It doesn’t matter that the evidence exists because Americans are either oblivious are simply don’t care.

Mick Mulvaney proves this reality yet again.

Publicly, Mulvaney toes the Trump line of the immigrant scourge while behind closed doors he acknowledges the dirty secret that immigrants make America great.

But the xenophobes don’t care, and the anti-immigrants just look the other way hoping no one notices. Secretly, the Democrats use the immigrant plight for political points while winking at their labor masters that the politics is just a show for election day.

The Republicans, on the other hand know the truth but pretend they are for secure borders allowing them to get the votes they need on election day.

It’s a game for everyone, except for the immigrants, who suffer while making America great.

That is America’s dirty secret.
