As many of you likely know, Donald Trump pardoned Dinesh D’Souza last week. What you may not know is that D’Souza is an immigrant. This begs the question, what happened to the demand that immigrants “follow the law?”

According to the Department of Justice website, as of June 1, 2018, Donald Trump has pardoned four individuals, in addition to D’Souza. They are Joe Arpaio, Kristian Saucier, Lewis Libby and John “Jack” Johnson.

Joe Arpaio, as many of you know, was convicted of contempt of court for ignoring a court order to stop profiling immigrants in Arizona. Trump gave him “a full and unconditional pardon” for the conviction and “any other offenses” in connection with the “Melendres v. Arpaio” case. Arpaio will not be held to account for illegally profiling Hispanics. Trump issued the pardon on August 25, 2017.

Kristian Saucier was pardoned by Trump on March 9, 2018. Saucier was convicted of taking photographs of the classified sections of an American nuclear submarine.

Lewis “Scooter” Libby was pardoned by Trump on March 9, 2018. Libby was convicted on four counts; making a false statement to federal investigators, one count of perjury and two counts of obstruction of justice.

John “Jack” Johnson was posthumously pardoned on May 24, 2018 by Trump. Johnson was an American heavyweight boxing champion. On June 1913, Johnson was convicted under the Mann Act, which went into effect on June 25, 1910, for being involved with a white woman, a prostitute, prior to the Mann law coming into effect. Nonetheless, the all-White jury convicted Johnson of violating a law that did not exist at the time of his action that resulted in the conviction.

And, late last week, Trump pardoned Dinesh D’Souza. D’Souza pleaded guilty to one felony in May of 2014. D’Souza admitted to paying two surrogates for each to provide $10,000 as a campaign donation to Wendy Long. D’Souza had given up to the federal limit and to bypass the legal limits, he convinced two underlings to each give $10,000, which he reimbursed. In other words, Dinesh D’Souza conspired to interfere in an election.

There is much commentary about whether Donald Trump is using the pardons as a signal to the Mueller investigative team, or as groundwork for future actions on the results of the Mueller investigation. But in all the commentary there is one thing no one seems to have pointed out.

In pardoning Dinesh D’Souza, Donald Trump pardoned an immigrant for a federal crime he committed.

Dinesh D’Souza was born in Mumbai, India. He came to the United States as an exchange student sometime between 1979 and 1983. In 1991, D’Souza became a naturalized U.S. citizen.

In other words, Dinesh D’Souza is an immigrant convicted felon.

The question becomes, where is the outrage from Donald Trump and supporters who demand that immigrants “follow the law.” This demand is usually followed with deport all criminal immigrants.

Therefore, the question remains, where is the outrage over Dinesh D’Souza?

It should also be noted that Deborah Fancher, D’Souza’s second wife, is an immigrant from Venezuela.

Clearly there is a double standard when it comes to which criminal immigrants are acceptable to Donald Trump and his cohorts. Some, like D’Souza are fine, while others, mainly Mexicans are to be deported even for minor infractions like driving without a driver’s license or working out papers.

As you can see, it is not about “following the law,” but rather about keeping certain immigrants out of the country while allowing others, even criminal ones, in.

Oh, in case there is some doubt as to how D’Souza feels about his guilty plea, his Twitter post is all you need to know.

  1. Driving without a driver licence is not a minor infraction. If they kill someone is that ok with you ? And If you are a resident and still living in Mexico and your kids go to school here then I consider that major also. That’s who is being snatched out of their cars. The Residents that cant prove they live here.
