Breaking News: Chris Hernandez Will File On Monday To Run For District 7

Ysleta School Board trustee and political consultant Chris Hernandez will file on Monday to run for the District 7 city council seat.

Another candidate will be filing to run for the city council District 7 seat on Monday. Ysleta Independent School District Trustee Chris Hernandez will file on Monday. In a telephone interview today, Hernandez confirmed to us that he is running.

In the telephone interview a few minutes ago, Hernandez said that he feels that he is “the best candidate to represent the people of District 7 seat.” Hernandez added that although he has “been thinking about it for months,” he made the decision this morning to run for the seat.

Hernandez joins Fabiola Campos Lopez, Lily Limón and Alan Serna who have also announced they are running for the District 7 seat.

On June 10, 2023, Hernandez defeated Debbie Torres for the Ysleta Independent School District 6 seat with 65% of the vote in a runoff election. Hernandez was not up for reelection until May 1, 2027. In the telephone interview, Hernandez told us he feels that YISD “is in a good position” and that he feels that “his message will resonate better with the voters.” He added that city council “needs a new vision.”

In addition to being a trustee for YISD, Hernandez is a partner in Fair Data and a longtime political consultant.

Monday is the last day to file to run for a municipal seat in the November 5, ballot. City offices are closed on Friday, leaving today and Monday as the last day to file for the open city council seats.
