With five days, including today, left before the early voting period ends on Friday, El Paso News analyzed the 14,277 Democratic and Republican ballots cast through Sunday. As expected, the Democrats continue to outnumber the Republicans. Women are slightly outvoting the men, but this changed on Sunday as men were leading the voters on Saturday. This is a breakdown of the demographics of the voters who have voted so far.

Unsurprisingly the Democrats are turning out to the ballot boxes. Of those who have cast a ballot through Sunday, 74% cast Democratic Party ballots. The Republicans cast 26% of the ballots. The average age of all the voters who have voted is 64 years old. Of the Republicans, the average age is 61 years old, while the average age of the Democrats is 65 years old. The gender of the voters is almost equally divided with 117 more females voting so far. However, the females overtook the men on Sunday as the men were outnumbering the women going into Sunday.

There are almost 500 voters who are casting their first ballot. Of the total ballots cast, two percent have been cast by Democratic voters and one percent by Republican voters who are casting their first ballot.

The voters that have cast a ballot live in 28 zip codes. The zip code with the largest turnout is the 79936-zip code with 15.20%, ballots cast, down by 0.07% from Saturday. Zip code 79912 follows with 11.62%, up from Saturday’s tally. Zip code 79924 has the next largest turnout with 7.76% of the voters. The next zip code with voter turnout is 79925 with 7.29% of the voters. Rounding out our top five zip codes is 79938 with 7.19% of the vote.

The top five zip codes include 49.06% of the ballots cast through Sunday.

The bottom five zip codes of votes cast were in 79835 (0.64%), 79836 (0.61%), 79853 (0.48%), 79821 (0.28%) and 79906 (0.02%). There were less than 300 ballots cast in the bottom five zip codes, including the three ballots cast in the 79906-zip code, the lowest amount in the zip codes where voters have turned out.

The remaining 48.91% of the ballots cast so far were from voters in 18 zip codes, including zip code 79902 where 2.91% of the voters came from.

Of the voters that have voted so far, almost 200 have an “S” designation on their voter profile with the El Paso Elections Department. According to the Voter Field Guide that defines the data fields provided by the County, an “S” in the voter’s status indicates that the voter is “eligible to vote but needs to submit data update.” This suggests that the voter’s information is incomplete at the County.

Early voting ends on Friday and Election Day is Tuesday, March 5.

Our exclusive data contains numerous data points that we have yet to analyze. For example, we can analyze the Republican voters and tell you in what zip code they live. We can also analyze the gender mix between Democrats and Republicans. We can report on the average income levels of the Democrat voters versus their Republican counterparts. Our data allows us to look to see which party is mobilizing new voters. We have several other models we can apply against the early voters, like gun owners or voters who support climate legislation. We have over one million models we can apply to the early voters. For example, the El Paso Democratic Party recently targeted over 8,600 voters who requested a vote-by-mail ballot, including whether they have “lean,” or “strong” support for the Democratic Party and whether they intend to vote this election cycle. We can take that model and apply it to the early voters to show how many of the El Paso Democratic Party targeted mail voters have voted.
