CHAMIZAL PARENTS HIGHLY CONCERNED

EPISD DOES NOT HAVE THE CAPACITY TO OPEN SAFE SCHOOLS

Douglass parents will hold a Press Conference Friday January 29, 2021 at 1pm via Zoom, to Demand Safe Schools!

Children have returned to school in Douglas without a good health plan and this puts our entire community at risk. They are not following the necessary strict covid guidelines to ensure a safe return for students that are struggling. The school does not have sufficient staff, or crucial protocols in place, nor the spacing to sufficiently address the social and safety needs of barrio Chamizal children.

Douglass Elementary School has already reported a case of the virus. Some teachers have discouraged parents of sending their children to school because of safety concerns. There is a lack of clear information about what is happening at Douglass School and EPISD does not believe that it is important to provide information to parents.

It is evident that EPISD continues to underfund, under resource and ignore the necessary safety needs for barrio schools.

By February 1, more students are expected to enter the school. This will put the whole school and the community in more danger if adequate resources are not provided.
