County Commissioner Precinct 4 Carl Robinson issued a statement late yesterday regarding Shawn Nixon, who is a candidate for City Council District 4. According to an October 5 KVIA report, Nixon was arrested on October 2 on allegations of issuing bad checks.
According to the KVIA report, Nixon was booked into the downtown jail on a charge of theft of service with a value of between $2,500 and $30,000.
City Council District 4 is in the northeast of El Paso. Sam Morgan, the incumbent is being challenged by Nixon, Dorothy “Sissy” Byrd, Joe Molinar and Wesley Lawrence.
Like Nixon, the incumbent, Sam Morgan, was arrested last year on domestic violence charges. He was indicted on a felony charge on November 14, 2019.
In March, Morgan’s wife asked that the charges be dropped.
The Shawn Nixon Endorsement Post
Earlier this week, Shawn Nixon released a picture of himself with Carl Robinson with a statement that Carl Robinson was endorsing him for City Representative. The endorsement was shared by Nixon on social media.
In his statement released to the news media on October 28, Carl Robinson writes that in response to the Nixon Facebook post, that although he is “happy to take pictures” with members of the community, that “it saddens” him to “report City Council candidate Shawn Nixon has taken advantage” of a picture he took with him at a public event using it to “fabricate” a quote that Robinson endorses him.
Robinson added, “I have never endorsed his candidacy and have no intention of doing so in the future.”
Robinson concluded his written statement with “I asked Shawn to remove the post from Facebook, which he did, and post a statement making it clear I never provided the quote he touted as an endorsement, which he has not done. I appreciate Shawn’s enthusiasm, but his poor judgement and lies that have led to criminal charges make it obvious I could never endorse his candidacy. I respectfully reiterate my request that he set the record straight and want to make it clear to El Pasoan’s that I never endorsed Shawn Nixon”.
