In a video circulating on Facebook, Laura Strathmann is allegedly caught stealing her opponent’s campaign material. Strathmannn is a runoff against Marlene Gonzalez for judge of the 388th Judicial District. Early voting for the race is ongoing now.

Election day is July 14, 2020.

The video shared by Rebeca B. Gonzalez on Facebook and on Youtube purports to show Laura Strathmann stealing a Marlene Gonzalez campaign sign. In Texas it is illegal to steal or deface political signs. Stealing political signs is punishable by a fine of up to $2,500, a year in jail, or both. If the sign is located on private property, the additional charges of trespassing and theft can be added.

The El Paso Politics has reached out to both the Gonzalez and Strathmann campaigns for comments.
