All are equal says the U.S. Constitution and it is the rallying cry behind the American “exceptionalism” arguments. It is the lie that has propelled the country from the moment it was founded. This lie perpetuated the rest of the American lies that follow it, the lie that all are free to worship or argue before a court their rights.

Let’s put an end to one obvious lie from the onset, the lie that the American legal system is far and equal for all. The American legal system is based on the ideal that it is about fairness. All are equal and all are presumed to be “innocent until proven guilty”.

The “innocent until proven guilty” is a lie.

When a citizen is arrested, they are punitively treated before even seeing the judge for the first time. They are handcuffed, jailed and forced to pay a bail before they get to trial. The handcuffing and the jailing are punitive actions. Paying bail is oppressive and punitive.

All of this happens before guilt is assessed.

Understand that and the reader understands the “innocent until proven guilty” lie.

But the underlining and driving American lie is the lie that all Americans are equal. It is supposed to be all human beings are equal but when citizens are not equal in America how can others be equal as well?

The Declaration of Independence declares that “all are men are created equal” and that God has proclaimed it so.

Yet, this lie ignores the inconvenient fact that slaves were not “men” and thus the lie began right at the moment that America declared itself “equal” for all men.

Understanding this inconvenient fact leads the reader to the realization that America isn’t equal for all men, but rather it is equal for a certain group of men.

Therein lies the underlining truth of the American lie.
