The maquiladora industry throughout the north of the country did not respect the national health emergency decree intended to prevent Covid 19 infections in Mexico, also, faced with the threat of being fired, workers are forced to continue working, making it clear that failure to do so will mean your wages will not be paid.
The few workers who are at home are those who have been forced by their companies and company unions to suspend labor relations because they have overproduced or lack supplies due to company work stoppages in the United States of America, and they are only being paid between 20 and 60% of their regular weekly wages, without benefits including savings, pantry bonuses, punctuality, attendance and productivity bonuses, by the following large corporations LEAR, ADIENT, JOHNSON CONTROLS, APTIV (RIO BRAVO ELECTRICOS). This illegal circumstance was achieved under threat; if they didn’t sign an agreement to accept a reduced salary to go home, they should sign their resignations.
Workers in the maquiladora industry who are at home with 50% of their weekly salary and have housing credits with INFONAVIT, have been living for a month with a salary of up to 45.00 pesos per week, less than two US dollars, due to the indifference of United States large billionaire car assembly corporations such as FORD, GENERAL MOTORS, CHRYSLER, and the German MERCEDES BENS and BMW, among others, when in fact the national health emergency decree compels them to send their workers home in order to protect their lives, and is obligated to pay them 100% of their salary for the survival of the workers and their families, who with even 100% of their salary can hardly put food on the table.
The most wretched companies go so far as to deceive their employees, telling them that the company is not obligated to suspend work because they are in fact carrying out essential activities when this is a falsehood. The maquiladora industry does not carry out any essential activity because all of its products are for export abroad, and what will happen when retaining the workforce will result in a terrible exponential contagion of Covid 19, which has cost several workers lives in the face of the indifference of the President of the Republic of Mexico and his cabinet, who have not moved a finger to shut down those workplaces. Ciudad Juárez ranks second among the municipalities with the highest incidence of deaths in the México, due to SARS-CoV-2, without considering the fact that the Mexican Social Security Institute issues certificates in which it refers to the cause of death realted to cardiac and respiratory conditions, since none of the patients are tested with the PCR test, unless they are hospitalized in serious condition and they will only admit that they died from that cause, if the result of the test arrives at the hospital before the death of the patient in CDMX. If not, then they refuse to divulge the results, so as not to increase the statistics of Covid19 positive patients, according to the relatives of the victims.
Under-reporting and misdiagnosing COVID-19 deaths
Of the closed maquiladoras in the City of Juárez, Chihuahua and in the City of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, the vast majority were forced to stop due to labor stoppages by workers, crying out for their health and life as well as for that of their families, and we’ve only managed to get them the 100% salary increase promiswed, in very few cases.
The workers stopped late in the game. The maquiladoras should have been closed by Mexican federal authorities since March 24, 2020, and not on the 30th, given the concentration of thousands of people working in the same place twenty-four hours a day –and because it didn’t, the maquiladoras are now the fastest path to death, with 16 deaths at LEAR PLANTA RIO BRAVO where they make automotive interior trim, 5 at SYNCREON which repairs ATMs for the United States, 2 at TORO COMPANY, 3 at REGAL where they manufacture motors, one at ELECTROCOMPONENTES DE MÉXICO, one at COMMSCOPE, and 1 at CORDIS (HEALTHCARE).
But, in the face of the terrifying deadly panorama for maquiladora workers, only LEAR AND APTIV remain closed, and they are already calling their workers to return to work under threat of dismissal if they do not do so, although the federal health authorities have declared that the state of emergency will last until May 30, 2020, and none of the companies mentioned in the previous paragraph have suspended work, due to the terror and confusion of workers to whom the government said they would work for the poor but remain indifferent to their suffering, issuing daily updates as if they did not exist, as if they and their families were immune to contagion and even death.
FOXCONN, ELEXTROLUX, MOLEX, ALIGH, REGAL, HONEYWELL ADEMCO, AVX (AVIO EXCELENTE), ROBERT BOSCH FAGERDALA, LIKOM, COLUMBUS, EMERSON (TERMOTECH), SUNRISE, VISHAY ELECTRONICA DE MEXICO, KEYTRONIC, KEYTRONIC, KEY SAFETY COMMSCOPE, in Juárez; PARKER, VDO (DECORATIVE GLASS OF THE WEST, KONGSBERG, ROBERTSHAW, CONTEC, EDUMEX, JOHNSON CONTROLS, CARDONE, AMPAD, in Matamoros, and hundreds of other companies, continue to work at the border, while Hugo López Gatell Ramírez, (Mexican Undersecretary of Health) and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador promote a map that only exposes certain states that violate Mexico’s national emergency health decree, excludin ght enortthern states such as Chihuahua, Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon, Coahuila, Sonora and instead pointing only to the states of Jalisco, Michoacán, Veracruz, Nayarit, Puebla, the State of Mexico, Aguascalientes and Baja California Norte, as violators of the heath emergency decree, excluding CDMX, Hidalgo, Estado De México Aguascalientes and Guanajuato, as the states that violated the sanitary emergency decree, excluding the northern states, such as Chihuahua, Tamaulipas, Nuevo León, Coahuila, Sonora and Sinaloa, claiming at the same time in contradiction that during phase III of the pandemic the northern states will be the most affected, but without publically announcing their non-compliance with the emergency health decree and allowing them to continue to operate with impunity.
God save northern Mexicans, so far from God and so close to the United States. While workers produce profits for multimillion-dollar companies profits, many see them as the white gods with blue eyes and blond hair, while those are the very people allowing them to die mercilessly, without consideration of any sort. The next generation of slaves is ready to replace them.
