There continues to be this false notion that El Paso is immigrant friendly. It is not. As readers may know, Donald Trump has tasked the Border Patrol to deport as many undocumented immigrants as quickly as possible. Trump has also declared war on “sanctuary cities.” Guess which city is not targeted by Trump? That would be El Paso.

The San Francisco mayor and sheriff recently made headlines by stating unequivocally that San Francisco officials will not help federal agents deport immigrants. They, along with other sanctuary cities, have made it clear that immigrants are welcome in their communities.

El Paso on the other hand does not welcome immigrants.

There are regular flights out of El Paso sending immigrants to other countries. The El Paso Sheriff not only helps federal officials openly, but the County of El Paso makes money from holding immigrants at the El Paso County jail for deportation.

It is a big money maker for the El Paso County.

When Veronica Escobar had the opportunity to step forward and end the money-making operation of jailing immigrants in El Paso, she said no. Escobar had no interest in helping immigrants when she could have done something for them.

Now, Escobar pretends to want to help immigrants because it is politically expedient for her at the moment. It’s cool to say one opposes Donald Trump by arguing of helping immigrants, but another thing all together to actually help immigrants. While Veronica Escobar pretends to care about immigrants, her husband spends the day ordering immigrants deported each day.

No, El Paso is not immigrant friendly.
