Make no mistake, the 2020 presidential elections are about beating Donald Trump. Trump has proved that he has a die hard base of about 38% of the country behind him. On election night, it will be about who mobilizes their lazy American voters to the polls. It is about mobilizing voters to the polls. It also about gaming the electoral college.

As the Democrats continue to go through their presidential candidate selections, it is important to understand that the election will be about having someone who can energize more voters than Donald Trump. It is not about mobilizing voters across the nation, but rather about mobilizing voters in key areas to have the necessary affect on the electoral college.

Pete Buttigieg has proven that he has the capability of mobilizing voters. Buttigieg has energized his base to put him into contention against many odds. But the important question remains.

Can Pete Buttigieg have the ability to beat Donald Trump at the electoral college.

Therein lies the important question that Democrats must answer with their selection.

Pete Buttigieg cannot rely on progressive Democrats to beat Trump. Buttigieg must motivate voters in the key electoral college districts. Not only motivate them but get them to the polls on election night.

It is not enough to have a strong base of supporters in the areas of the country where the Democrats are strong. It imperative that the eventual Democrat contender mobilize conservative and even some ultra-conservative voters to cast a vote.

There are many conservative voters who will not vote for Trump. That does not help the Democrats and those of us who wish to see Donald Trump defeated.

To beat Donald Trump, the challenger must motivate voters in the key electoral college areas that are needed to counter Donald Trump’s die-hard supporters. Trump understands this. The Democrats need to understand this as well.

The question remains, can Pete Buttigieg beat Donald Trump where it counts – at the electoral college?
