While most of you aren’t looking, a very telling moment in Donald Trump’s presidency is happening across the nation. There are over 40,000 auto workers on strike against General Motors. The UAW workers are on the fifth day of a national strike.
As you might remember, Donald Trump promised to bring back jobs to the country. When Trump was arguing against NAFTA, he told you that México was stealing U.S. jobs. Trump promised to bring back those jobs.
Donald Trump has been in office for over 900 days. He can no longer blame his predecessor. The NAFTA replacement that Trump proudly trumps up as a “win” has been ratified by Canada and México but languishes in Congress. That really doesn’t matter, because the USMCA is nothing more than NAFTA 2.0.
Regardless, Donald Trump has been at the helm long enough to have delivered on his promise to bring back jobs to the country.
Remember he proudly told you that Ford changed its mind and wasn’t going to build a plant in México and instead invest in U.S. manufacturing. The strikers are unhappy with having the new Chevrolet Blazer built in México. That is the major sticking point in their negotiations, in addition to healthcare benefits.
As if the U.S. strikers aren’t enough strife for automotive workers, about 1,200 Canadian auto workers were laid off because of the U.S. strikes. In a global economic supply chain, if one link in the chain breaks, it affects others down the chain. Expect many more layoffs to come as the labor strife continues to trickle down the supply chain across the country and through other suppliers across the globe.
So the question that demands to be answered is, why are over 40,000 auto workers on strike against GM?
Simple, Donald Trump’s misguided attempt to end global supply chains is a failure.
A government cannot force private industry to create jobs. To do so means that the county is no longer based on free enterprise but rather on socialism. Remember the Soviet Union? It attempted to create jobs for all its citizens.
But what many of the Donald Trump supporters reading this today will ignore is the poignant hypocrisy of Donald Trump calling Democrats socialists when he demands that American companies provide the most basic socialist dictum, give the people jobs.
Well, as you can see, the failure is evident across today as fellow U.S. voters are striking because Donald Trump is a failure.
Just wait until the Chinese workers in their ant hill state get woke and start demanding the things American workers take for granted. Like being able to strike and speak without fear of ending up as Dick Cheney’s next organ transplant. THAT will be real supply chain disruption.
