The ongoing war in America against immigrants is about to get much worse for the immigrants. When Donald Trump announced his most recent presidential ambition, he did so by declaring war on Mexicans. He soon included all immigrants.
Secretary of Homeland Security, Kirstjen Nielsen’s abrupt resignation has made it clear that the American war against immigrants is going to get much worse for all immigrants. Nielsen will be known for one thing – putting children in cages. The legacy of caging children will follow her throughout her professional career. As bad as that is, Nielsen’s departure unleashes Donald Trump’s worst impulses and as the pressure of Trump’s malfeasance continues to mount, Trump will retaliate against immigrants.
Many readers will consider this post an exaggeration. But the facts are clear.
Under Nielsen, America became a country where United States citizens were summarily picked off American streets and deported. Anyone can Google this to see it for themselves. Under Nielsen, America became a country where a Border Patrol agent out in the middle of Montana could demand to see the identification of two women for simply speaking Spanish. Under Nielsen, America became the country where American citizens have relinquished their rights to free speech and unreasonable searches when they return from abroad as they are being forced to provide the passwords to their electronic devices.
This is what is happening to American citizens.
Now imagine being an immigrant today.
Donald Trump has made it clear that he wants to replace Kirstjen Nielsen with someone “tougher.” We have also recently learned that Donald Trump doesn’t care what the law says. Trump ordered Border Patrol agents to close the border to asylum seekers only to be countermanded by the Border Patrol leadership as soon as Trump left the area.
In other words, the “commander-in-chief” was countermanded by his subordinates because the subordinates didn’t want to see their men in legal jeopardy for following an illegal order from their “commander-in-chief”.
Clearly things about to get worse for immigrants in America.
Buckle down and hold on tight because being an immigrant in America today is living in fear.
She’ll also be remembered for the gassing of refugees. Will international courts prosecute her for crimes against humanity?
Desperate times require desperate measures.
