There are about 1 million American workers without paychecks today. We know about the 800,000 federal workers who are not getting paid because of the government shutdown. What we don’t know is the number of contractors and business workers who are without paychecks because part of the federal government is shutdown. The cleaning staff, the restaurant workers, the information technology workers and countless other contractors have not been quantified yet. And, unlike their federal workers, these uncounted workers are unlikely to get back pay.

This all because Donald Trump is demanding money for The Wall.

It has nothing to do with border security or the safety of the country and everything to do with a symbol of hate. The Wall represents hatred, plain and simple.

There is pressure on the Democrats and the Republicans to give in to Donald Trump to end the suffering.

But here is the thing, any money designated for a “border barrier,” or God forbid, a “wall” is a win for Donald Trump regardless of the quid pro quo, including a solution to the Dreamers (DACA) debacle.

As soon as the Democrats capitulate for “border barrier” money – Donald Trump has won.

Donald Trump desperately needs a win for his monument of hatred. Even if it is a citizenship pathway for the Dreamers for “border barriers” money, Trump wins.

Regardless of the wording, Donald Trump will spin the “border barriers” into wall money, irrespective of the truth.

At that point, America has lost, and hatred has won.

Any money for The Wall or any money for “border barriers” in exchange for ending the government shutdown is a win for Trump, a win for hatred.
