Granted, I am a foreigner who is not an expert on the U.S. Constitution but even I understand that making changes to Constitutional Amendments with an Executive Order is not only scary for Americans it is un-American. I realize that the xenophobes in America and the anti-immigrants are celebrating the notion that Donald Trump can singlehandedly do away with “birthright citizenship” with a stroke of the pen.

To those demanding stricter immigration laws, an Executive Order sounds like the perfect solution to a problem that has remained unresolved for decades. Rather than go through the legislative arm of the government, simply bypass it and issue the order to modify the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. It just requires adding a simple caveat; “to parents legally in the United States.”

It seems simple enough, take the 14th Amendment; “all persons born…in the United States” and add the words “to American parents,” or even “to parents legally” in the country, and voila, the issue of “anchor babies” is solved.

Such a simple solution, why hasn’t anyone thought of it before?

Right?!

While we’re at it resolving the country’s problems, why not go and solve all the problems.

Let’s start with the 2nd Amendment, you know the one that gives the National Rifle Association (NRA) life. In part, it says; “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

The killing of innocent Americans with guns continues unabated. Why not just remove the words “shall not be infringed” from the 2nd Amendment and make all AR-15’s illegal. But, why stop there, just make all guns illegal.

A simple solution to a serious national problem, right?

Donald Trump hates CNN, so he has just given himself the perfect solution to his pesky problem. He can sign another piece of paper that adds; “except for speech the president deems is dangerous to Americans” to the 1st Amendment. Trump can then add MSNBC or CNN to the list of news outlets that are “dangerous” to Americans.

Voila, another problem solved with the stroke of the pen.

As voters digest these insidiously simple solutions to the country’s problems, they should do well to remember that the Constitution of the United States was created to do away with the right for one individual to sign a document decreeing what is good for the citizens of America.

Those that support the idea that the solution to the “anchor baby” debate rests on an Executive Order should just simply proclaim Donald Trump the emperor of the United States and be done with the constraints of the democracy.

One reply on “Executive Order for Birthright Citizenship”

  1. Making Amerik³a white by any means necessary.

The trompas terrorists are on the march, the militias are heading to the southern border to make their Alamo stand, y el trompas continues to rabble-rouse his base. Now he will rewrite the Constitution.

The Republicans are taking the opportunity to Jim Crow were ever possible and some, like Lindsay Graham, are working on legislation to strengthen white supremacy.

In the meantime things are getting dicey out in the South China Sea.
