Yesterday, the El Paso Times once again inserted itself into politics to “correct” the record for one of its protected politicos at the behest of the El Paso cabal who have plans for El Paso’s future. The paper ran a full-length story about how a video by the Club for Growth, a Conservative SuperPAC, was “misleading.”
The article by Madlin Mekelburg, a reporter for the USA Today, discusses how Beto O’Rourke being equated by the “Bulldozer” TV ad as an “oligarch’s” politico and a “bully” is wrong because it is based on misleading information.
As you can see, the video starts out with “Bosses, Bullies, Conquistadores” setting the stage for the idea that Beto O’Rourke is a paid-for politico for his father-in-law, Bill Sanders. The video ends by labeling Beto O’Rourke as the “Bully Politician.”
The video says what many in El Paso believe – when the original plan to demolish poor people’s homes to benefit Sanders and other El Paso bigwigs – about El Paso politics. The bigwigs want to build a playground for themselves on the backs of the city’s taxpayers. Today, the fight lives on in the Duranguito debacle and even in the ongoing controversy over the Mexican-American Cultural Center. It’s the continuing de-Mexicanization of El Paso under the guise of downtown renaissance to make El Paso successful.
It all goes back to what the Glass Beach Study articulated in 2006 – that for El Paso to be successful it needs to rid itself of its Mexicanisms. Some readers may be tempted to believe that is no longer true, but each day there are many El Pasoans who decry their city’s closeness to Mexican culture. It is not about racism because it is not about skin color as most El Pasoans are Hispanic. The issue is a cultural war between the Anglo culture that some believe is superior to the Mexican culture found in most of the United States, especially in the Southwest of the country.
There has been a culture war in America ever since the United States absorbed almost half of México into its union after the end of the Mexican-America War.
Beto O’Rourke and his fellow politicos, like Veronica Escobar, Susie Byrd, Steve Ortega and others set out to reinvent El Paso by taking away its Mexican culture, actually only the parts that made it too Mexican. You see, the issue is not about Mexican food as O’Rourke and ilk see El Paso’s Mexican food as a gateway to greatness. They also love the idea of El Paso being the “gateway” to México.
But what they don’t want are the “gritty” Mexicans in their presence or that the uncomfortable truth be known that the Cd. Juárez drug plaza would not be so important to the Mexican drug cartels if it weren’t for the El Paso leadership looking the other way.
This, and the reality that Beto O’Rourke is “liberal” enough for the Democrats. That is right, the “secret” is that Beto is too conservative for the Democrats.
But like the reality-show that is American politics, his opponent, Ted Cruz is twisting himself into pretzels trying to make Beto O’Rourke too liberal for Texans.
That is the underlining problem for Cruz, the Democrats and the Texas voters.
Beto O’Rourke has created himself a persona based on a long-term political plan to put himself in contention for the highest office of the nation. What?!? Beto O’Rourke for president of the United States?!?
Some readers are likely blaming marihuana or other hallucinogens for the idea that Beto is looking to run for president.
But the idea that Beto O’Rourke will one day run for president has been part of the cabal’s discussions since William “Bill” Sanders, Beto’s father-in-law, first proposed it during a meeting in El Paso staking out political futures. It happened whether you believe it or not.
But for Beto O’Rourke to position himself for his presidential run he must run against Ted Cruz.
For Ted Cruz this is nightmare because although Beto O’Rourke doesn’t really care about winning the Senate seat as this is just a ploy to get national attention, O’Rourke’s political star rose because of the congruence of several political realities led by Donald Trump.
Beto O’Rourke’s bonafides may not be “liberal” enough for the Democrats but with his Democrat label, Beto can help take the Senate back as part of the “blue wave” from Trump’s presidency for the midterm elections. O’Rourke has promised to vote to impeach Donald Trump which is enough for most Democrats.
The problem for Ted Cruz is that Beto O’Rourke, although not a Republican, is centered enough to make some Republicans consider him over Cruz. Along with the “blues wave” this reality has Ted Cruz going into heart palpitations because the reality is that his “safe” seat is suddenly in play.
What most El Paso politicos have known for a longtime is that the “Democrat” label for El Pasoans means nothing as it is the only way for office holders to attain their seats. True El Paso Democrats would label Beto O’Rourke as a Democrat “in name only.” El Paso voters know that Beto is politically conservative.
But, but isn’t Beto O’Rourke for “open borders” and “legalizing drugs” is the likely questions on readers’ minds.
Yes and no. Beto O’Rourke and his team understand that certain political words translate into votes. The fact is that Beto O’Rourke did not pursue an effective legislative plan at House. O’Rourke took the seat and waited his time until it was time to run for the next office on his quest to the top. Beto did not create significant legislation at House so as not create a record that could be used against him.
Thus, Ted Cruz and those opposed to O’Rourke are having to use El Paso legislation against Beto.
Think about that for a moment, Beto O’Rourke served at the House for almost two terms, yet in that time he proffered few legislative initiatives for El Paso, or any other entity and quietly sat there waiting to run for the Senate seat. Without any tangible legislative initiatives, Texas voters are having to scrutinize O’Rourke’s municipality legislation to build his political experience from.
The Senate race was just part of the plan for Beto O’Rourke to get national exposure. He wasn’t expecting to win, until Donald Trump’s ineptitude became the “blue wave” for the midterm elections.
At this point it comes down to numbers.
The Democrats do not care if Beto O’Rourke is a true Democrat or not because if Beto beats Ted Cruz there is one more Democrat at the Senate. The Democrats may not believe they can count on Beto O’Rourke for most legislation but they know he is a lock to impeach Donald Trump if the opportunity arises.
It’s not about party politics for Beto, but rather about the writing on the wall that if the Democrats take control they control Trump’s future. No one would hesitate to impeach Donald Trump if the “blue wave” materializes, especially the Democrats.
The politicos know that Beto O’Rourke happened in on at the right time and at the right place.
Beto O’Rourke did vote for his father-in-law’s vision for an El Paso future based on the backs of the taxpayers, although Beto and Bill Sanders deny it. It is politically savvy to deny it.
For Ted Cruz, Beto O’Rourke is a nightmare because Cruz is not running against Beto O’Rourke but rather Cruz is running against the “blue wave”.
Thus, the only thing Ted Cruz has left to fight with it to put the fear of a flaming “liberal” that is too liberal for Texans. Cruz needs to convince Texas voters that Beto O’Rourke is not the middle of the ground politician, which he is, but rather a far-left liberal who will open the borders and legalize all drugs.
That is the only thing Ted Cruz has left to play.
He needs the Republicans, who are sick of Donald Trump threatening the Texas economy with trade fights with México and other countries and Trump’s continued embarrassment of the United States.
Texas Republican voters see Ted Cruz as a die-hard Donald Trump guaranteed rubber-stamp and Beto O’Rourke as the middle of the road alternative. Cruz needs to change that dynamic and thus the issue with Beto’s name and his land grabbing father-in-law.
The El Paso Times conveniently illustrates these issues for us.
The Club for Growth Action SuperPAC is a conservative group that spends money to guarantee a “pro-growth American” and advocates for “limited government.”
The group spent about $20 million in the 2016 national elections. It was against Donald Trump. It spent $7 million against Donald Trump during the Republican primary.
It put out the video that the El Paso Times takes umbrage with.
But here’s the reality of the video. It was published on September 4, 2018 and as of yesterday, at about 14:00 EDT, it only had 5,057 views on Youtube.
Not exactly an example of a far-reaching media engagement. It is hard to tell where, if anywhere, the video is running besides Youtube, but it seems to have limited reach.
So why, did the El Paso Times feel the need to give it exposure by writing the piece?
It has to do with two factors. The first is that the “not liberal” enough needs to be curtailed for the “blue wave” to work. That is the minor one of the two issues. The second, and most important one, is that Beto O’Rourke’s perfectly crafted persona needs to be protected for his political future.
The article takes great pains to create the notion that even those opposed to Beto O’Rourke’s land grabbing politics feel the video misleads voters about O’Rourke. Beto cannot have that remain in the public.
The underlining message in the entire article is that Beto O’Rourke took political action that attempted to take land away from the El Paso poor for developers but in the end, it did not happen. The article also insinuates that the opposition was “small,” at best and that even the ethics complaints were satisfactorily addressed by Beto once he saw understood what the issues were. The perfect politico “learning from mistakes.”
In other words, the El Paso Times was an article likely encouraged by Willian “Bill” Sanders to keep his dream of a president in his family alive.
That Ted Cruz is now freaking out about his seat is just gravy for the whole scheme.
But, like all well-thought out, long-range plans, the fiction must be kept intact for the dream to remain alive.
Interesting read. Just wanted to provide a little insight as to a secondary reason the El Paso Times felt the need to run a story on it, here in El Paso the video is getting some play on the locals. Sen. Cruz might be using it here to try and steal some votes away from Beto, but if here is the only place it’s running on TV that’s a wasted ad for sure.
So how much experience did Oballah have before he ran for POTUS? At least Beto was elected 5 times, not to say I’m on the same political page as Beto. I’m not but he’s a nice guy IMHO.
